Jan Kurfeld wins pre-worlds OK Dinghy Nationals in Auckland

Last year’s OK Dinghy world championship bronze medalist, Jan Kurfeld, from Germany, has opened his challenge for this year’s world title fight with a win at the 2019 New Zealand National Championship after two very different days on the Hauraki Gulf. Five-time world champion, Nick Craig, from Britain, took second while Luke O’Connell defended his national title as first Kiwi in third overall. Kiwi OK Dinghy fleet anticipating fantastic World Championship on home waters

The largest ever OK Dinghy event ever to be held outside Europe begins in just over 10 days in Auckland, New Zealand. The Symonite OK Dinghy World Championship has attracted 110 entries and is being held at Wakatere Boating Club on Auckland’s North Shore from 7-15 February. The OK Dinghy Worlds in 2019 is to adopt the “sailors for the sea” best practices to produce a clean regatta.

The Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas programme is designed to assist events and local communities to adopt standards and practices that will mitigate the effects of unsightly and environmentally unsafe refuse. The programme defines 25 best practices with guidelines on how to run any water based event in a sustainable way.
